A trade that only says yes should worry you. This is the list of things that do not come out, do not blend, or are someone else's job, and what to do instead.
A chip repair on veined marble will not be invisible
The fill is colour-matched, smooth and durable, but it cannot reproduce veining. From standing height it disappears; from close up it reads as a small plain patch. We show you the first one before doing the rest.
Rust stains may lighten rather than vanish
Iron from a can or a steel implement bonds with the stone. A poultice lifts most of it. Some remains, especially in pale marble, and we say so after seeing a photo rather than after taking the job.
Cracks through the thickness of a benchtop
A hairline surface crack can be stabilised and filled. A crack running through the slab, or one that is moving, is structural and needs a fabricator. We will tell you which it is, and we will not fill a structural crack and call it fixed.
Outdoor sandstone and paving
Sandstone around pools and paths can be cleaned and sealed, but it does not take the kind of restoration an indoor floor does. Not serviced. A pressure-cleaning and sealing specialist is the right call.
Engineered stone outside the legacy rules
Engineered stone has been banned from new installation in Australia since July 2024. Repairs on legacy benchtops are permitted under strict dust controls, and we take them on only where we can meet those controls fully.
Deep etching that has changed the surface level
Etching that has been left long enough to dish the surface can be honed flat, but the honing has to go deep enough to reach the bottom of the dip, and on a thin top or an edge profile that is not always possible. The test patch is where this gets settled.
Colour changes in the stone itself
Yellowing in white marble from age or from the wrong sealer, or a stone that has darkened from moisture underneath, is in the stone rather than on it. Polishing will not change it. We will say so.
